What happens if you don’t use your allocated NDIS funds?

Once your current NDIS plan ends, your funds stop. And any unspent funding will NOT roll over into your new plan.

After each plan review you will receive a new plan outlining supports and funds for the next period of time. While you have the choice and control to spend your funds strategically throughout the year, you cannot roll over unspent money.

What does this mean for you? Simply put… Use it or lose it!

You can track your funding whether you are plan managed, self-managed or NDIA managed through the myplace portal. If your plan period is coming to an end and you have unspent funds, it might be the perfect opportunity to book in some of those additional services that you know need doing but you were hesitant to book until now.

Sistability offers seasonal services that are vital to keeping your home well-maintained and safe. You can check them out here then get in touch if you’d like to book some in to make the best use of your funding package.

How to track your NDIS funds

There are three options to manage your NDIS funding - self-managed, plan-managed and NDIA-managed.

No matter how your funds are managed, you still have choice and control to ensure your services are working for you and fit in your budget. Even if your funding is managed by the NDIA or a Plan Manager, you should regularly check the myplace portal and your funding to make sure your budgets are on track.

‘Household tasks’ aka house or domestic cleaning & maintenance

There are three types of support budgets that may be funded in your NDIS plan; Core supports; Capacity building; and Capital supports.

‘Household Tasks’ which is what Sistability’s Services fall under comes under the ‘Core Supports’ budget.

The good news is you can generally use Core budget funds allocated against one support category to purchase supports under another support category unless funds have been set aside for a specific purpose such as periodic payments for transport, or any Core budget line item type that is:

  • Compensation

  • Specialised Disability Accommodation i.e. accommodation for participants who require specialist housing solutions due to significant functional impairment and/or very high support needs

  • In-kind e.g. Government pre-paid supports such as school transport or some therapy supports

  • Stated item (including Quotes for certain items) e.g. assistance in a shared living arrangement.

For details about your Core supports you should refer to your NDIS plan.
