Been Approved for a Home Care Package? Here's What You Need to Know About Choosing Your Provider

When you're approved for a Home Care Package (HCP), it can feel both exciting and overwhelming. After waiting patiently through assessments and approvals, you finally have access to valuable support to help you live safely and independently at home. But what many seniors and families don't realise is this: you have complete choice and control over who provides your Home Care Package services.

Unfortunately, some clients feel rushed or pressured into signing with the first provider who contacts them — sometimes even before they receive their official approval letter from My Aged Care! It's important to know your rights and take the time to choose the provider that's the best fit for you.


Why Do Some Providers Contact You First?

If you were receiving support under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) before your HCP was approved, your CHSP provider may be notified of your package assignment through the aged care system portal. This gives them an opportunity to contact you quickly and encourage you to sign up for their Home Care Package services.

While some providers do a great job, it's crucial to remember:

  • You are not required to stay with your CHSP provider.

  • You have full choice and control under your Home Care Package.

  • You can switch providers at any time if you're not happy.
