Approved for CHSP, But No One Can Help? You're Not Alone.
You’ve finally made it through the My Aged Care process and been approved for support under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP). You’re expecting help with the basics—like cleaning or gardening—so you can stay safely and comfortably at home.
But then comes the shock: there are no local providers available to take you on. You’re told to “call around” or “check back in a few months.” Sound familiar?
We hear this story every week—and we believe it needs to be talked about.
Why It Happens:
CHSP funding might be approved, but provider capacity doesn’t always match demand. Domestic assistance and home maintenance services are often overbooked, underfunded, or paused due to workforce shortages.
In regional areas like Northern Rivers, the issue is especially acute. Providers are stretched, and many clients are left waiting—with no real plan.
What You Can Do:
1. Call My Aged Care Again
Let them know you’ve been approved but cannot access services. Ask for help connecting with a Regional Assessment Service or to escalate the case.
2. Ask to Be Waitlisted
Contact local CHSP providers and request to be added to their waitlist—even if there's no immediate availability.
3. Bridge the Gap Privately
Sistability offers private-pay cleaning and gardening services that can fill the gap while you wait for CHSP services to become available.
4. Consider Applying for a Home Care Package
If you’re already struggling to get support, you may benefit from a Home Care Package (HCP). These packages offer greater funding and more flexible provider choices.
We can help you apply for an HCP and guide you through the process.
You're Not Alone—And It’s Not Your Fault
The aged care system can be complex, slow, and frustrating—but there is help available. Here at Sistability, we advocate for fair access and practical solutions, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
